Cabinet Painting

Painting your kitchen cabinets is a face way to spruce up any old kitchen. Below are steps on how to improve the look of your kitchen by cabinet painting. You can use paint, or varnish, it is up to you.

1) To start the actual job, begin removing the handles and removing the doors and drawers. Then start scrubbing the cleaning the cabinets inside and out. You may have to do this several times to get all of the gunk off.

2) After you do this, cover the counter tops with a tarp. You do not want to damage anything. Start sanding the cabinet doors and the cabinet boxes. You want to make them smooth so that paint will stick to them.

3) After this, apply one coat of varnish by beginning to paint the cabinet doors. Paint the exterior first from top to bottom. While this dries paint the face and sides of the cabinet boxes. After the doors are dry, paint the interior of the doors and let that dry. You will need to apply two coats of varnish or paint to all faces of the cabinets, doors and boxes. Allow this to dry for 24 hours before you replace anything.

4) After everything is dry, replace the handles and the doors. This may be tricky and you may need a level. You also may want to replace the handles and hinges with brand new ones.
