Cabinet Refinishing

Refinishing cabinets can be less expensive than remodeling. There are a lot of different options. In a remodel there are a lot of limiting factors. You will probably have to move your plumbing and electrical. It may be a lot of hassle if you just want to make the kitchen look a little better. If you like the layout of your kitchen, but it is showing a little age, the you should consider just refinishing and re-facing things. It upgrades the appearance of your kitchen or bathroom without going through a renovation.

Cabinet refinishing is relatively simple. Instead of removing the existing boxes, you take off the doors and drawer fronts. You re-skin the facing pieces of the boxes and replace the doors and drawers with new ones.

To decide if refinishing is the right thing to do, you will want to check for rot. If there is rot around the floor, sink, or dishwasher, you may need to just replace your cabinets all together. If there is no rot, you will want to start with some planning, such as style and color. If you want to replace the doors, you will want to measure the old ones to make sure that the new ones fit.

You can refinish your cabinets in a few different ways: Refacing-applying veneer strips to the existing cabinets and replacing the doors--painting or apply veneer, and staining.
